The County Government of Nyamira plans to increase agricultural production and promote agribusinesses through the provision of  extension services to farmers.

Governor John Nyagarama said  achieving this target will entail his government supporting the dairy value chain through artificial insemination of 12,000 cows, vaccination of 20,000 cows and procurement of 120 dairy goats for breeding purposes.

He said the County will erect four milk coolers to promote the preservation and marketing of dairy products. “The County Department of Agriculture will also supply 800 kilograms of certified pasture and fodder and establish five feed centres,” he said.

Speaking to the press in his office yesterday, Mr Nyagarama noted that his government will also support the fishing industry by setting up 300 fishponds, and constructing, de-silting and stocking of five dams with fingerlings.

He observed that bee keeping was fast becoming a sizable industry in the county.  He explained that his government will distribute 200 Kenya Top Bar Hive and 20 apiary kits to 20 groups to set up demonstration apiaries, this financial year to increase honey production in Nyamira County.
