Nyamira professionals equip county library with learning materials

Governor John Nyagarama and Interior CS Fred Matiangi flag off an assortment of learning materials for use in the county library.

Community engagement is highly valuable. Therefore, engaging library volunteers from our communities has proven beneficial in reaching them further enhancing confidence, skills and employment capacity.

  Nyamira County Government with the support of Interior cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi accompanied by Nyamira professionals and kenya libraries board took a footstep especially in ‘giving back to the community’ by equipping the Nyamira county library resource centre with a number of reading materials a journey of developing Nyamira County.

The professionals coming together with Kenya National Library Service, will greatly help our community to further the professions through ongoing learning, quality control and research. It marks a special step, taken by the professionals from this region, in developing the society.

The Nyamira County public library resource center is situated in Township ward Nyamira south sub-county along the highway.

“My government has ensured that our resource center serves the general public by providing information needed by the users more especially materials that are meant to educate. Most of these materials contain information based on various disciplines,” said Governor John Nyagarama in his speech.


The Nyamira government has been in partnership with the Kenya National Library Services to ensure there is a modern library in Nyamira. The agency donated books even before the library structure was up and through Kenya National Library Service research directorate helped the county come up with a library policy and library bill, which was sent to the county assembly.

The Governor thanked the professionals for their consideration to boost Nyamira Resource Centre. It is the primary site for the locals to locate and access information. Both levels of Government, depend on these centers to collect and disseminate government information.

As professionals, your efforts to come together to boost this resource center will greatly impact and enhance the reading culture to the people of Nyamira,” said Dr. Matiangi during the handing over of the reading materials.

The Governor urged the professionals to consider other areas of need which include, provision of advisory services on individual’s area of expertise to the people and the County Government.

Other areas include giving talks, training and mentorship programs to the community, explore and pursue various investment opportunities in Nyamira.

“This will create job opportunities for our young people and Provide career support and opportunities for students, graduates and the working class,” added Governor Nyagarama.
