Discussions by various stakeholders have started in earnest to share views which will inform the preparation of the Nyamira Municipality Spatial Plan.
The Municipality’s Spatial Plan is a development Framework meant to guide development within the jurisdiction of a Municipality.
The stakeholders meeting includes the Nyamira Municipality manager Jackson Mogusu, top County Government of Nyamira technical professionals led by Mr.Lameck Nyariki, who is the Acting Director of Physical Planning in the Department of Lands Housing and Urban Development, County Directors and several Municipal Board Members lead by Vice Chair Commissioner Cecilia Ondima, Commissioners Alice Ombwori, and Charles Ombati.
"This Municipal Spatial plan should be ready in two months time. It will even assist us plan our finances knowing areas of priority. I therefore call upon all stakeholders to individually and collectively give their input in terms of views so that, in two months time, we have this document ready,” said Director Nyariki in one of the consultative platforms within Nyamira.
He added that once it passes through the normal procedure, it will then be taken to the Cabinet for adoption and further to the Assembly for approval and operationalization.
“The Municipal Spatial Plan is supposed to be ready by the closure of this financial year hence the need to speed up preparation of this document for development and investments done,” noted Nyariki.
Development of the Nyamira Municipality Spatial Plan has had its share of challenges notably, determining of residential and commercial sites and bringing order in the uncoordinated development strategies among locals.
According to the available findings, the locals’ encroachment to road reserves, blocking of access roads, poor solid and liquid waste management are among the factors that have delayed the process of putting in place the spatial plan.
The discussions will equally be looking at better inception strategies, upping awareness among the public through media reports, mobilization and sensitization inputs.
Lead planners and consultants noted that, data collection and analysis has been done and what they are now zeroing down to is presentation of situational analysis report to the stakeholders.
