Nyamira County ECM for Education Emily Ongaga chairing a meeting of a senate select committee from Kisii University
A seven-member committee from Kisii University senate are carrying out feasibility study in Nyamira County with a view of establishing a constituent college in the area.
The committee members led by Prof Christopher Ngachi today met with Nyamira County Executive Committee Members for Education Emily Ongaga and Lands counterpart Steve Oboso to identify the most suitable site to establish the college.
Prof Ngachi said his University’s senate had received a list of names of institutions from the county which various stakeholders wanted to be considered for upgrading to higher learning institution.
The institutions proposed are Senator Kebaso secondary school in West Mugirango, Ekerubo Gietai, Ikonge and Sere in North Mugirango and Manga girls secondary school in Kitutu Masaba.
“There are criteria we are going to follow before settling in one of the institutions where the Senate will establish the constituent university,” Prof Ngachi said.
The Senate committee will find out whether the proposed institutions have title deeds, enough land for expansion, accessibility to the site and it’s topography.
Others include but not limited to existing infrastructure of the institutions, area general security and distance from the main University.
