Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)- Kenya officials are carrying out a pilot project on value addition of bananas and local vegetables in Nyamira County.
Led by Assistant FAO, country representative Mr Hamisi Williams, the officials today paid a courtesy call to Nyamira County Deputy Governor Dr James Gesami and deliberated on various value chains that can be followed by local farmers to earn more income.
Mr Hamisi said his organization will factor in waste management while implementing value addition of agricultural produce.
Farmers, he added, will be encouraged to practice climate smart farming in order to sustain productivity of targeted agricultural output.
Dr Gesami said Nyamira county is keen on value addition for farm produce to increase income for farmers.
He said the project should help farmers reduce post-harvest wastage due to glut.
Also present was County Secretary Jack Magara, County ECM Benard Maina (Trade), John Matiang’i (Environment), and Steve Oboso (Lands).
