Today, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo received a report on the revitalization of Vocational Training Colleges in the county.
In November, the Governor formed a committee to look at the challenges of low enrollment in the 43 VTCs in Nyamira, the curriculum and courses being offered, as well as physical facilities and management of the institution.
The key challenges highlighted in the report include lack of market-relevant courses, staffing, leadership and management, and lack of proper infrastructure and equipment.
While receiving the report, the Governor said his administration will take quick action to implement the recommendations, especially on management of the VTCs, and also ensure relevant courses are offered by qualified staff.
He said with the reduction in white-collar jobs, it is my belief that VTCs can offer our youth relevant skills to be self-employed or get jobs in the informal sector.
The committee was chaired by Charles Kimwomi. Also present at the event was Deputy Governor Dr James Gesami, County Secretary Dr Jack Magara, CECM Education Emily Ongaga, among others.
