Nyamira County Governor H.E Amos Nyaribo today met with Technical and Vocational Education and Training principals from the devolved administrative unit and deliberated on how to improve the institutions.
The principals who were led by Ekerubo Gietai National Polytechnic Geoffrey Andama said they were ready to work with the County Government to increase students population in their institutions.
The Governor agreed to flag off a torch from the County Headquarters to be used for a road show on Tuesday next week to promote the population increase in the local TVETs.
The road march will be part of cerebrations to mark 100 years since the first Technical institute was established in the country.
Other TVET heads in attendance were Mr Omariba (Getwebe), Mr Peter Nyaribo (Kitutu Masaba) and Mr Paul Makori (Nyaigesa)
Mr Andama thanked the Governor for the initiative he took in liaison with the national government to ensure that Ekerubo Gietai attains a national Polytechnic status.
“We have enough tutors and adequate facilities in our TVETs but the population of students is not encouraging,” Mr Andama said.
Mr Peter Nyaribo said in his TVET, equipment worth more than Sh200m for training on refrigeration and air conditioning were underutilized as local students were not ready to take such courses.
Governor Nyaribo assured the Principals that he will improve road network to the institutions.
“I will also ensure there is street lighting in the vicinity of Tvets. But am concerned over vandalism of the street lights we have put in various parts of the County,” he noted.
