NYAMIRA Governor His Excellency Hon. Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo has commisioned a Ksh.8.5 million water borehole at Riensune DEB Primary School, Nyansiongo Ward of Borabu constituency.
The borehole that went 240 metres deep is a project sponsored by Andrew Wemyss Trust Group in loving memory of former powerful Cabinet Minister, the late Hon.Simion Nyachae.
"Today, I commission the Riensune DEB Primary School borehole, Solar panels and Water Tanks donated by our good friends from Andrew Wemyss Trust Group.
We thank the partner as a leadership for their kind gesture of which is levelled at assisting our primary learners and the community access clean water for use," said the Governor.
"This is in memory of our former late Minister, Mzee Nyachae," he added in a speech read on his behalf by the County Executive Committe Member for Environment, Water, Mining, Energy and Natural Resources John Matiang'i.
According to the Governor, boreholes are an essential part of constituents' life.
Governor Nyaribo said, the borehole is environmentally friendly since it was backed by an indepth Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report which did not alter the natural environment.
He hailed engineers on the ground for prioritizing care for the land so as to ensure they act in an environmentally friendly manner.
The Governor is in record to have sunk a borehole in every ward of Nyamira County.
"Using water from a borehole can actually reduce the carbon footprint and emissions of any business by up to 90 per cent," Governor Nyaribo said.
“Whilst boreholes certainly have an impact on the environment, unlike many man-made introductions to the world, the impact of a borehole is arguably positive!" he said.
The County's Environment Executive, Mr. Matiang'i urged locals to fully support the Governor's development agenda.
He added that Governor Nyaribo means well for all Nyamira constituents.
"We have a working Governor who needs our individual and collective support so as to help him realize his dreams for our great County of Nyamira.
We have an obligation to do work and serve all our people well," said Matiang'i.
Andrew Wemmys Trust is run by Mrs. Grace Nyachae, the wife to the late Hon. Simion Nyachae) and Chair person, Peter Belsoi (Trustee) and Silas J.Njubwakalle (Trustee).
The Andrew Wemmys Trust Group has sunk similar boreholes at Lerach Primary School in Kericho County, Nyanturago Primary School in Kisii County, Kapkorosi Primary School in Bomet County and now at Riensune Primary in Nyamira County.
"We are doing this to return to the community in memory of my late Husband Simion Nyachae. We will do three more boreholes at Schools yet to be indetified," she said.
Matiang'i was accompanied by his departmetal Chief Officer Joshua Ombogo Marwanga, several departmental Engineers, Nyansiogo Ward Administrator Everyln Bosibori Nyaboga, area chiefs and community representatives.
"I urge all stakeholders to take their roles seriously in guarding our environment.
We must take care of our environment and ensure that, our actions better our lives," said Matiang'i.
He added that the public must help keep the environmet clean always since it is the right thing to do.
Riensune Primary Headteacher James Nyabuto Maiteka hailed the Governor's move and promised to post good results going forward.
"Clean borehole water is now closer to us. My learners and teachers will never again spend time loitering around streems looking for this precious commodity. That spent time will now be utelized in reading and staying in class" said Nyabuto.
Also present were all his teachers and Board of Management chairperson, Mama Violet Maisiba.
