GOVERNOR NYARIBO SIGNS CHARTER TO ELEVATE KEROKA INTO MUNICIPALITY
January 16, 2024
Nyamira County Governor H.E Amos Nyaribo today signed a charter to elevate Keroka town to a Municipality.
This is after a report and recommendations by an ad hoc committee was passed by the County Assembly of Nyamira.
The recommendations by the committee were based on Keroka’s centrality to neighbouring urban areas, its robust transport connectivity infrastructure, financial potential, and enough space for expansion.
The charter will be gazetted and soon after, a board will be constituted to run the affairs of the municipality.
“I note with pride that urban areas in Nyamira County have been growing and expanding over the years, both by population and amenities, warranting their upgrade to deserving status as stipulated in law,” the Governor said when he signed the charter in his Boardroom.
He continued: “It is with great pleasure and honour that I have signed the historic charter for the elevation of Keroka to a municipality whose headquarters will be at Rigoma Ward.”
He said the upgrade of Keroka into a municipality status was inline with the Urban Areas and Cities Act, 2011.
“I thank the Ad hoc Committee, the County Assembly of Nyamira and everyone who participated in this process.
I strongly believe that Keroka Municipality is poised to contribute significantly to the sustainable growth and prosperity of the community in the area and the entire Nyamira County,” the County Boss said.
