Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo,led the County Government in celebrating Madaraka Day to mark Kenya's 60 years of self rule at Manga stadium, Nyamira County.
It was a show of color, pomp and elegance as the Governor and other distinguished guests made their way to the stadium in style.
Speaking to the public, Governor enumerated some of the strides his government has achieved and promised that once they receive the National equitable share he will start implementing projects that will aid the people of Nyamira.
"Thank you for being patient, we have had financial crisis occasioned by the failure to disburse funds to the counties by the National treasury but once we receive the funds we will start implementing the projects as promised during the elections", stated the Governor.
Governor Nyaribo also noted that, for the the first time in history, the county has hit and surpassed the over 200 million mark of revenue collection as at May, 2023.
"I'm delighted to announce that revenue collection has hit and surpassed the over 200 million mark, this is a great improvement, to maintain this trend,we are in the process of constituting the revenue board that will oversee the process and ensure everything is done correctly ", He assured.
He therefore, urged the Nyamira residents to continue paying taxes so that the county can generate its own-source revenue to make it possible to finance investment in human capital, infrastructure and the provision of services for residents and businesses.
Commenting on the issue of payroll clean up, he maintained that he will ensure justice and equity prevails and also put proper measures to monitor the human resource information system.
Lastly, he appreciated the National Government for their mutual working relationship and thanked the security team for reducing insecurity incidents in Nyamira and assured them of his support.
The County Commissioner, Onesmus Kyatha who read H. E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto' s speech, promised to consult, collaborate and work with the Governor to ensure service to all is executed without favour.
In a bid to improve and spur economic growth, this year, the National Government settled on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as the theme of Madaraka Day celebrations which was held at the Moi stadium in Embu County.
The hustler economy is based on Micro-small and medium sized enteprises sector, which is the second pillar of the Kenya Kwanza bottom up economic transformation agenda.
Governor Nyaribo is keen in supporting the SMEs through offering affordable credits and also introducing the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF)that allows health facilities to manage funds they generate.
If the Facility Improvement fund bill is passed, Nyamira will be the fifth County In Kenya to have recognized the fund.
The upgraded Manga Stadium will now be renamed "Robert Ouko Stadium" In memory of the late Olympian, Robert Ouko who was in the team of 4x400M relay that won gold in 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany.
Today's celebration was attended by; the County Secretary, CECMS; Health, PSM, Gender, Finance, Transport, Education, Lands and Agriculture. The County Attorney, CCOs;Finance, Primary Health Care,Medical Services, Livestock, Lands, Gender, Trade and Transport.The Chief of staff, the Sports Advisor and other County officials.
