The introduction of cashless mode of payment for all services has seen a tremendous upward revenue trajectory in Nyamira County.
The County Governor H.E Amos Nyaribo says through mapping out of revenue sources, his Government has managed to increase own revenue by 25 percent.
“We started this in February this year and we hope to increase this percentage in the new financial year,” he said.
In a speech read on his behalf by CECM for Finance Dr Geoffrey Morara, the Governor said through the mapping out of revenue sources across departments and setting revenue targets for each one of them, his government was able to increase the revenue collection.
The disclosure of the successful story on the County revenue collection was made during the sensitisation of stakeholders on government programmes Medium Term Plan (MTP) IV 2023-2027 for Nyamira County at Guardian Hotel.
“We realized that we can contribute towards addressing the underfunding issue by increasing our own source revenue,” Governor Nyaribo said.
He reiterated on the importance of County Intergraded Development Plans (CIDPs) in the development of a counties, saying when devolved administrative units develop, the entire counties grow.
“This is why we should defend and support devolution,” the Governor said.
Governor Nyaribo emphasized on the strength of collaboration between the National and County Governments, saying all efforts should be geared towards a prosperous people and the country.
The function was attended by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and National Treasury and Planning officials.
During the occasion, Mr Machogu read President William Ruto’s speech that centered on what the National government has done in terms of development during the period the Head of State has been at the helm.
Director of Planning, Ministry of Education Mr J. Ichwara Masini guided participants through the highlights of MTP IV’s sector priorities and various value chains for the County.
The function was also attended by Nyamira County ECMs, County Secretary Dr Jack Magara and various County stakeholders
