H.E Governor Amos Nyaribo today led thousands of mourners to give the Nyamira County Assembly majority leader Elijah Osiemo a heroic send off.
The funeral service venue at Getaari secondary school was filled to capacity as security officers, both from national government and those from the County, had hectic time to control the large crowd.
The funeral service was conducted by Seventh Day Adventist, Nyamira Conference top minsters Wickliffe Ongaga and John Nyatogo
Among dignitaries who attended the funeral included Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Education minister Ezekiel Machogu, MPs Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Clive Gesairo (Kitutu Masaba), Patrick Osero (Borabu) and Irene Mayaka (nominated).
Others were MPs Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Zaheer Jhanda (Nyaribari Chache), Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), Kisii County senator Richard Onyonka, Solicitor General Shedrack Mose, Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira Woman Rep), Doris Aburi (Kisii woman Rep), former Kisii Governor James Ongwae and ODM national Treasurer Timothy Bosire.
The late Nyamaiya MCA was showered with accolades before his remains were interred at his residence at Marara village, West Mugirango Constituency late in the evening.
Mr Nyaribo said he will give Mr Chris Osiemo, a younger brother to the late MCA, UPA ticket to defend the Nyamaiya seat once IEBC calls for a by-election.
He said the seat that had been left vacant belonged to UPA where he is the party leader and therefore he will do everything possible to ensure his political outfit retains it.
He said he will support UPA to capture the seat “ so that young Osiemo will complete projects his brother had initiated.”
Mr Nyaribo’s sentiment got support from Kisii Governor Arati who vowed to ensure that the young Osiemo retains the seat under Azimio la Umoja Coalition.
“We will give moral and financial support to the young Osiemo to ensure that he captures the seat that his brother left vacant through the road accident,” he said.
The two County chiefs agreed to work together for the prosperity of the Gusii community.
At the same time, Governor Nyaribo declared war on those bent to steal drugs from Nyamira County hospitals.
He said he had put mechanism to deal with drugs thefts, warning those behind the syndicate that their days are numbered.
“We are putting in place mechanism to prevent drugs thefts in our hospitals. I don’t want to disclose much on this, lest, those behind the syndicate will escape the dragnet,” he said.
On his part, Mr Machogu described the late MCA as a hero, peacemaker and whose leadership abilities was nipped prematurely.
“The deceased MCA was a hard working politician who always came to my office to champion interests of people of Nyamaiya ward and those of the County as a whole,” Mr Machogu said.
In a speech read on his behalf by the minister, President William Ruto said Mr Elijah Osiemo was a political beacon that was terminated through a road accident.
The late MCA met his death in Mai Mahiu area as he travelled to Nairobi for official meeting with his two colleagues who survived the tragic accident.
Mr Onyonka urged Gusii leaders to remain united for the prosperity of the community.
His sentiment was echoed by Mr Ongwae and Mr Gesairo who said Gusii community will benefit more if area leaders worked together as a team.
Mr Gesairo said the Kisii political unit will be elusive if other elected leaders continued back biting others
