KIENDEGE AIRPORT TO OPEN ITS DOORS BEFORE END OF NEXT YEAR
The proposed Kiendege Airport in Nyamira County is slated for completion before end of next year.
According to the Kenya Airport Authority Managing Director Alex Gitari the Airport is expected to take less than twelve months and will open its doors before the end of next year.
He spoke when he and other top KAA officials paid a courtesy call to Nyamira County Governor H.E Amos Nyaribo on Tuesday.
The delegation visited the 68 hectares land in Kemera Ward in Kitutu Masaba constituency where the proposed Airport has been earmarked for construction.
H.E Governor Nyaribo said the Airport which will be constructed by his Government in conjunction with the National Government is expected to be an economic game changer not only to his devolved unit but also to the neighbouring Counties as well.
During the tour, the National Government was represented by Mr Wilson Njagi. Mr Njagi represented the Secretary for Interior Ministry and Government coordination.
The team also visited the site of the proposed Airport in Kemera Ward and interacted with the excited local residents who welcomed the project.
“With the planned Industrial Business Park at Sironga, this would have not come at a better time. My administration is committed to these initiatives and will do everything possible to facilitate a smooth and timely delivery of the projects,” Mr Nyaribo said.
He appreciated the National Government for facilitating the two projects through the Ministry of Interior and Coordination.
The Governor who was flanked by his Deputy Dr James Gesami and his Cabinet took the opportunity to remind Nyamira residents to take the voter registration exercise very seriously.
He asked those who have no Identity Cards and those who had lost them to acquire the important documents to enable the government to budget and plan for service delivery.
Further, the Governor asked area residents to receive the Covid-19 jabs in the ongoing vaccination exercise in order to protect themselves and their loved ones.
