The County government of Nyamira working with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the government of Kenya is setting up an industrial business park at Sironga, Nyamira south Sub-County.
The project is expected to cost Ksh 3.4 billion whereby 265 Hectors of land has been set aside by the government.Currently,100 Hectors have been demarcated where fencing is being undertaken.
Nyamira County Lands County Executive Committee member(CECM) Mr Samwel Maiko, chief officers- Mr Josphat Gori, Mr. Emmanuel Mokoro, Mr Orori and Mrs Lidya Momanyi conducted an assessment survey at the ground to monitor progress of fencing of the site which is expected to be complete by next week.
“Several organizations have already shown interest and have officially written to the county government of Nyamira, seeking partnership once the project is complete,” noted the CEC adding that The Export Processing Zone(EPZ) whose headquarters are in Nairobi, wrote officially requesting the county to set some piece of land for them within the park.
He added that USAID has developed interest on doing value addition on tea and coffee, while Toyota Kenya seeks to establish a Center for car assembly.
The facility will attract social amenities in the neighborhood, where a school, hospital and a golf court will be established.
“This project will be the third one to be established by UNIDO in Africa, after Egypt and Ethiopia,” added Mr. Maiko.
The assessment brings together the departments of Lands, Agriculture, Trade, Environment and Culture, seeking to enhance proper mechanisms of implementing the project.
Also Mr. Maiko addressed the need to have a ring road that goes round the park, as part of the measures to improve networking.
H.E Amos Nyaribo alongside the President and UNIDO officials among other stakeholders are expected to launch the project once it is complete.
Upon completion, it will employ more than 10,000 youths and women both directly and indirectly. The park will have a regional impact in the Lake Region Economic Bloc, being the only one in the region. The airport that is projected to be constructed at Kiendege will have a great impact for the transportation of the value added products.
