Nyamira County First Lady H.E Emily Nyaribo fitting shoes to an ECDE learner at Ribaita primary school on Wednesday.

The County Government of Nyamira, through the initiative of H.E The First Lady Emily Nyaribo is carrying out a County-wide distribution of shoes to Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners.

 The program dubbed "Happy Feet with First lady" will give first priority to learners in schools in swampy areas who are most affected.

The First Lady launched the program in October,18, 2021 at Esiany Primary school in Nyamira North sub county where 114 pupils benefited with a pair of shoes.

Mrs Nyaribo on Wednesday extended the program to Borabu Sub-county where she visited four ECDE centers.

At Ribaita primary school 27 pupils went home smiling with new shoes, courtesy of the County First Lady.

Other beneficiaries were Isoge Primary school (30 pupils), Nyasakio primary school (83 pupils) and Ensakia Primary school (70 pupils).

This program will continue for the next one week to cover all the sub-counties in Nyamira.

The First Lady is also spearheading an indigenous tree planting exercise alongside this project to ensure that the environment is conducive for the learners.

 " My aim is to help in planting at least 5,000 indigenous trees in various learning institutions this year as part of our shared responsibility in environmental management and combating climate change,” she said.

 The First Lady added that  ECD is a very important part of the education cycle and being the foundation, it requires a conducive environment.
