Migori County Hosts The 11th Summit Of The Lake Region Economic Bloc
H.E. Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo joined fellow Governor Colleagues at the
LREB Summit which brings together 14 Counties from Nyanza , South Rift and Western Regions in Migori County.
The Main focus of this year Summit is to zero in on climate change adaptation,trade and the blue economy which is in line with this year summit theme "Partnership For Sustainable Development: County Responses to Blue Economy and Climate Change Adaptation."
Speaking at the Summit Governor Nyaribo sold the noble idea of the Industrial Park and invited investors and partners to join him in making the dream come true.
" The Industrial Park is going to be a game changer, imagine developing the value chain for our farm produce to create employment and improve the economic livelihoods of our people.
Thus, i invite everyone to support us in establishing this historical monument in our region" , said Governor Nyaribo.
The economic bloc is aimed at enabling Counties leverage economies of scale, harness cross boundary economic resources and improve infrastructure.
The host Governor, Dr Ochilo Ayacko, reiterated that the summit will improve the economic development of all the 14 counties.
The Chairman LREB, H.E. Prof. Peter Anyang' Nyong'o also emphasized on forged strategic partnerships to enable what he termed as an "ambitious economic Bloc" lay a firm foundation for development in the region and also share on emerging issues.
He also congratulated the 9 (nine) County Assemblies which have already passed the LREB bill 2019, a move that will give the Counties a legal mandate to make the required financial Contributions to LREB.
Therefore, he urged those who were yet to pass it, to fast track the passing of the bill into an act so that the Bloc can start moving.
The National Government through it's representative, Principal Secretary for Devolution, Teresiah Mbaika assured the Bloc of it's support, noting that she was delighted that the theme of this year's summit resonates well with the Kenya Kwanza agenda on climate change adaptation and that it's high time that Counties ensure they increase their forest cover by 2030.
Speaker after speaker hailed the Bloc for remaining steadfast and united some emphasizing that it's high time they move from the "talking stage" to the implementation stage so that they realize what they have been advocating for hence strengthening their ties.
Agriculture, the "ailing" sugar company, Health and tourism were also discussed in length in order to boost the Sectors in the region.
The bloc is backed by various investors and partners to ensure they achieve their mandate that will enable the Bloc prosper economically.
It also intends to establish strong markets so that people can export their goods freely to other neighbouring Counties to improve on the economy.
The summit has brought together more than 500 participants drawn from the over 14million strong population of the Lake Victoria Basin, Development Partners and Private Sector Investors.
The Summit was attended by Lreb Governors , Deputy Governors dignitaries across the Country, County executive leadership, County Government officials and the academia.
