H.E Governor Amos Nyaribo and his Deputy Dr James Gesami today flagged off Nyamira North Sub-County Great Run that attracted old and upcoming athletes.

 

The ten kilometers road race kicked off at Ebate near Gekendo primary school through Nyamusi Divisional headquarters and ended at Esanige proposed International Sports ground next Magwagwa trading centre.

 

The min marathon that took place today will culminate to the 21km marathon that will start at Ikonge and end at Chebilat in December 13, 2921.

 

The Governor said his government was committed to promote sports talent with the aim of supporting upcoming stars to wear national and international colours.

 

The race that attracted more than 150 athletes saw winners awarded with cash and blankets.

 

In men category, Stephen Arita of Manga Ward won the race by clocking 28:55.05. He was followed closely by Enock Ochari (Township Ward) and Evans Mayaka (Itibo ward) who came home at 29:19.45 min and 29:27.80 min respectively.

 

In Women race, Winfridah Moseti from Magwagwa Ward overcame her competitors by winning in

33:24:32 minutes.

 

She was followed by her Ward mate Nancy Kerage who finished in 36:02:66 minutes.

 

The third position was taken by Christine Oigo of Bogichora Ward in

36:34:76 minutes.

 

Winfridah, the 25 year – old is an International athlete from Athletica Sports club, Italy.

 

Recently, she participated in Milan marathon, Italy where she took position nine in 2:27.44min.

 

She also took part in Rome marathon where she took fourth position in 2:35.05 min

“Previous I participated in Guadarajala, Mexico half marathon where I took position three

I now plan to run Madrid half marathon in Spain on November, 14,2021. This is the race am preparing for through this Nyamira Sub-County half marathon,” she said.
